Data Backup Alone Is No Longer Sufficient for Cyber Defense

Ransomware attacks companies, on average, every 14 seconds, according to Cyber Ventures. To make it worse, discovering how ransomware intrudes into an enterprise IT infrastructure is extremely challenging and often happens after damage is already done to a company.

The traditional line of defense to cyberattacks has been data backup. However, the backup and the infrastructure that houses the backup solutions are now being increasingly attacked. Data backup on its own is no longer sufficient as a defense.

Enterprises and managed service providers need a better way to ensure that their data is protected from cyber criminals. The stakes have never been higher. Ransomware attacks in North America have soared by 158% and globally by 62% since 2019, according to the 2021 SonicWall Cyber Threat Report. The attack surface has broadened over the past year, in particular, because of the increased levels of employees working from home.

Ransomware has caused businesses of all sizes to shut down operations overnight. Even though it’s not recommended, companies have had to pay large sums of money to restore their businesses. When ransomware takes data hostage, it can destroy backup copies of data, steal credentials, leak stolen information and worse.

We saw a real opportunity to help organizations deal with these ongoing challenges. To address ransomware, Infinidat introduced the world’s fastest data recovery capabilities to significantly enhance its InfiniGuard® appliance for enterprise customers.

The value proposition is simple, yet powerful. The InfiniGuard CyberRecovery capabilities provide best-in-class transparent protection of the entire backup environment. It features immutable snapshots and near-instantaneous recovery to previous points-in-time based on customer-defined policies.

The new enhancements to the InfiniGuard platform are superior recovery capabilities that advance data protection. It enables enterprise customers to establish a new line of defense for data backup that is critical in 2021 and beyond.

How exactly does it secure the backup environment? How does it protect the lifeblood of an enterprise: its data?

InfiniGuard CyberRecovery protects the backup solution itself through its transparent protection functionality, which is a new-generation approach to defending against ransomware and other cyber threats. InfiniGuard offers immutable snapshots using WORM (write once read many) technology, ensuring that copies of data cannot be deleted, encrypted or changed.

Infinidat’s expanded cyber recovery solution also utilizes policy-based point-in-time recovery capabilities to enable the near-instantaneous recovery back to any point in the history of the data for data integrity and consistency. InfiniGuard also provides an isolated test environment that is easy to use.

Protecting your entire backup environment is now an essential part of any organization’s cyber defense strategy. Our newest innovation in cyber recovery on the proven InfiniGuard platform gives enterprise customers the ability to implement a new, more effective strategy to guard against, fight off and recover from damaging cyberattacks.
