Infinidat’s Comprehensive Support for Veeam Kasten and Production Container Environments
Recently, Veeam released the newest version of Kasten for Kubernetes data protection ─ V7.5. This is an important release, as Kubernetes has become an essential part of the enterprise infrastructure. We have seen a pronounced upswing in Kubernetes adoption in our large enterprise and service provider customer bases, and not just in lab environments or as skunkworks projects. Enterprises are seeing the value of Kubernetes as a production platform for both the delivery of applications and for hosting large-scale, mission-critical production environments.
Infinidat and Veeam have been working on data protection for container environments for some time and we expect to have more news on that in the New Year – stay tuned! As a teaser, think about the maturation of containers from an ephemeral environment focused on deploying workloads to a persistent and stateful environment focused on serving applications to the business. Many of our customers are running applications such as Red Hat OpenShift Virtualization, PostgresSQL, MongoDB, MySQL, Cassandra, and other workloads in their Kubernetes environment with production applications.
As this shift from a pure DevOps application development and deployment environment to a production environment occurs, the need to protect and recover from any disruption (accidental deployment of buggy code, data center outage, cyberattacks, etc.) becomes more critical. This is where the intersection of Kasten 7.5 and Infinidat provides our customers with a robust, secure and highly performant data protection solution, which is focused on recovery first and foremost. The joint solution – Infinidat’s storage solutions are part of the Veeam Ready Kubernetes program ─ will leverage the expanded immutability support in Kasten 7.5 to enhance security of your data, and the data mover optimizations to improve backup performance of large-scale enterprise environments with millions to billions of files.
Some of the most important features of the upcoming joint solution include:
- Backup and Recovery: The InfiniBox® high performance cyber resilient storage, combined with Veeam Kasten’s industry-leading Kubernetes data protection solution, provides a seamless persistent storage layer with rapid backup and recovery for mission-critical stateful workloads, including OpenShift Virtualization, relational and NoSQL databases.
- Cyber security and resilience: Veeam Kasten’s built-in end-to-end encryption with its ability to employ immutability combined with InfiniSafe immutable snapshots enabled through our Container Storage Interface (CSI) driver ensures customer data is protected from malware and ransomware attacks or accidental deletion, both on the cluster storage and in the backup target.
- Scale: InfiniBox supports hundreds of thousands of persistent volumes and Kasten can easily protect multiple InfiniBoxes within a single cluster, providing protection for massive environments.
- Ease of Use: InfiniBox multi-protocol flexibility supports persistent volumes via block and file protocols, including Fibre Channel, iSCSI, NFS, SMB, and NVMe-TCP with all access modes. Veeam Kasten is easy to deploy, and it manages applications and data end-to-end with simple dashboards and policy-based workflows. The combination gives customers a simple and comprehensive solution for Kubernetes data protection.
The bottom line is: if you are using Kubernetes in your organization, you need scalable storage, which provides the scalability and performance required for deploying mission-critical applications. In addition, you need to protect your environment. Veeam Kasten provides the leading solution for Kubernetes data protection. The joint solution provides a very secure, resilient, performant and 100% available solution for customers to protect their enterprise data.
